For the purposes of this season long thread I assume a bankroll of $10,000 with each unit worth $100. This is very typical of seasons past and how I would typically approach my pre season bets. If you have any questions please post them in this thread and other than that I will simply check in every couple of games and update the current line on the bets I took today to see how I am doing and decide if a cash guaranteed hedge at some point is worth while.
I’ve taken Manchester United to win the League which is hardly comparable to splitting the atom but obviously the bookies feel the loss of Ronaldo and Tevez will be significant as they are offering odds of + 245 which is unbelievably GREAT value. Though I agree it will be difficult to replace Ronaldo’s 40 goals a year I still think Man Utd are the class of the Premiership and will be on top this time next May. Conversely I went with big dogs to struggle this year having both Pompey and Bolton to be relegated. I hit a + 900 bet on Charlton several years ago and the guys at the Rx, specifically Quantum Leap, amongst others will testify we made a killing fading a previously top 6-8 team all the way to relegation.
My best bets if you want to just pick one or two would be Spurs + 17.5 points v Arsenal - this is a joke as I think Arsenal will struggle this year big time and actually have Spurs finishing ahead of Arsenal this year never mind the spread. If there were a ML option I would take it. The other best bet would be Man City to finish in top 4 + 200 - they have a very impressive squad and may take a month or two to gel but they will be very tough to beat this year and with perennial top 4 finisher Arsenal looking less than impressive this off season I really fancy them to beat out Spurs, Villa and Everton to that last CL spot.
In the lower leagues I have West Brom, Leeds and Notts County to win these divisions, probably all favorite but from what I’ve seen they will probably come in. Watch for Mowbrays skillful soccer playing Celtic to win the title back from the Gers too at + 100 can’t really go wrong.
Here is the final league table as I see it
