For the purposes of this season long thread I assume a bankroll of $10,000 with each unit worth $100. This is very typical of seasons past and how I would typically approach my pre season bets. If you have any questions please post them in this thread and other than that I will simply check in every couple of games and update the current line on the bets I took today to see how I am doing and decide if a cash guaranteed hedge at some point is worth while.

I’ve taken Manchester United to win the League which is hardly comparable to splitting the atom but obviously the bookies feel the loss of Ronaldo and Tevez will be significant as they are offering odds of + 245 which is unbelievably GREAT value. Though I agree it will be difficult to replace Ronaldo’s 40 goals a year I still think Man Utd are the class of the Premiership and will be on top this time next May. Conversely I went with big dogs to struggle this year having both Pompey and Bolton to be relegated. I hit a + 900 bet on Charlton several years ago and the guys at the Rx, specifically Quantum Leap, amongst others will testify we made a killing fading a previously top 6-8 team all the way to relegation.

My best bets if you want to just pick one or two would be Spurs + 17.5 points v Arsenal - this is a joke as I think Arsenal will struggle this year big time and actually have Spurs finishing ahead of Arsenal this year never mind the spread. If there were a ML option I would take it. The other best bet would be Man City to finish in top 4 + 200 - they have a very impressive squad and may take a month or two to gel but they will be very tough to beat this year and with perennial top 4 finisher Arsenal looking less than impressive this off season I really fancy them to beat out Spurs, Villa and Everton to that last CL spot.

In the lower leagues I have West Brom, Leeds and Notts County to win these divisions, probably all favorite but from what I’ve seen they will probably come in. Watch for Mowbrays skillful soccer playing Celtic to win the title back from the Gers too at + 100 can’t really go wrong.

good picks i jsut have to disagree on bolton to relegate i think it will be hull or blackburn i not wigan .. in terms of fininshing points it will be tight this season so 80 is a good line for bookies since we have City and Villa and everton join the top 4 to make it top six so point will be scratched..but if you think Man U to take it then they will cover but i just think they won too many n a row so they will have to fight chelsea and livepool this season really hard.but i do think it will be chelsea this year since they have a prmenant manager..

good luck and i hope it will go all right to you and all of us

what is your opinion on Fulham v. Portsmouth this weekend. The game is at Fratton Park and Fulham is the dog at +185. I really cant see Portsmouth challenging Fulham as they sold the majority of good players.

GL with your bets....

My thoughts are you are underestimating Burnley, Coyle is a great manager and they have a great team ethic. They could surprise a few and stay up just like Stoke did last year....

Conversely Spurs + Man City lack this precise factor. I think that Man City are just a mercenary outfit and Spurs too seem to like buying up anyone who has shown a glimpse of talent without actually thinking of trying to craft a team.

Arsenal are interesting case - Wenger has been trying to build this team for ages, this really is the crunch for him, they have to win something this year. Will be interesting he's done the right thing in off-loading Adebayor and Toure (has any player done better after leaving Arsenal? Maybe Henry has done ok at Barca but otherwise no - look at petit/pires/viera etc...) So City have bought 2 players past their best for about 40m.

TBH it looks almost nailed on that the top 4 will be the same as it always is with as you say Man U the most likely to lead the pack.

What do you think of

Everton +24.5 v Liverpool ?

I think its an interesting offer, Liverpool had a miracle year last year, while Everton are solid and ever-improving. The past 3 years the gap has been much closer than that.

Edit: I think lots of people are underestimating Arsenal this year. Not saying theyll win anything or make any big splashes but they are still quality in my opinion
